Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon had some success with the M1B in the 1966 Can Am series but Bruce decided to come back to 67 in a much more organised and prepared way. Can Am was big money in those days and the McLaren team were determined to collect their share. The new car was the M6A designed by Robin Herd; it was a simple monocoque with a Chevrolet engine of 5.8 litres. Most importantly the car was extensively tested before departure from the UK to the series. Denny Hulme joined Bruce and 1967 was the start of the Bruce and Denny show. The 1967 series was 6 races and Denny won the first three, Bruce was second in round two and three and won four and five giving him the championship by three points from Denny. The only race they did not win was the last, which was won by outgoing Champion John Surtees.
Marsh models originally produced the M6A as an all-metal kit ref MM6 in about 1987 . As can be seen from the pictures the finished result captures the lines and detail of the M6A faithfully. The kit was very simple to build and can be recommended to all abilities. |
